Volvo Group and Penn State Sign Academic Partnership Agreement at RETECH 2010

RETECH 2010 has come and gone and I am very pleased with the Volvo Group participation in the event.  Over 300 companies and organizations from all renewable energy sectors had a presence at the exhibition and the show boasted over 5,000 registered participants. During the 3-day business conference, over 250 industry-leading experts spoke, the most notable being Carol Browner, Assistant to President Obama for Energy and Climate Change.

On RETECH's final day (and one that was cut short by a major snowstorm), a side event was held by both Volvo Group and Penn State to announce an academic partnership between the two, the first for Volvo in the U.S. and part of Volvo's Academic Partner Program (APP). While Volvo Group and Penn State have a history of collaboration, this particular partnership focuses on research in production technology, engine development and automotive safety with a concentration in diesel combustion, alternative fuels, intelligent transport systems and vehicle and driver safety programs. Urban Wass, of AB Volvo served as moderator for the event and speakers included Niklas Gustavsson of AB Volvo, Tony Greszler of Volvo Powertain, Jan Hellaker of Volvo Technology, as well as several members of the Penn State faculty. The event was followed by a signing ceremony of the agreement.

All in all a good week at RETECH 2010. And yes, I succeeded in returning to New York before the worst of the snowstorm hit DC!
