THE PEOPLE MAKE NEW YORK CITY

New York City, with its population of over 8 million citizens and land area of 305 square miles, has been considered the financial, cultural, fashion, and even the culinary capital of the world.  And although the Big Apple has been hit hard by recession recently, I find it one of the most magnetic cities in the world. What makes this city so unique? Well, after three years of living in this lovely city I have finally arrived at the answer. It is the people!


New York City is a cultural and ethnic melting pot unlike any other in the world. It is the main point of entry into the United States for people from all over the world, either transplanting themselves to begin a new life or simply visiting to wander the streets and experience the wonderment of the city. It is a monumental meeting place, where interesting personalities and fantastic characters come together.

The entire world fits into New York! We represent 170 different languages here and almost 40% of the inhabitants are born outside of the United States. I am one of them!

For me, New York City is one of the most diverse places in the world because the people here value tolerance and freedom of choice as a given. Historically, New York was built on a liberal vision introduced and enhanced by the Dutch people who founded it in 1624 and named it New Amsterdam. Here, you can live and look as you like, be what you want, believe in whatever religion you choose, express yourself, and make of yourself what you dream. The respect that the New Yorkers show to individuals and their different characters and personalities is truly admirable and unique. Regardless of a person’s ethnic background, education, political view points, religion, or sexual preference - you will find your place here in the City and your way of life respected.

The people in New York are open minded, welcoming, and inspiring, which creates the energy that makes the city practically glow and life here exciting!
